About the 2027 Time Table Announcement
The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), Tamil Nadu, released the public examination schedule for the 2026–27 academic year in Chennai on October 14, 2026. School Education Minister A. Rajmohan announced the time table for Classes 10, 11 and 12.
The schedule came out earlier than usual, in mid-October. That gives students roughly four and a half months before the first paper, which is enough time to finish the syllabus without rushing and still leave several weeks for proper revision.
One important change to keep in mind: under the State Education Policy 2025, the regular Class 11 public examination has been scrapped from the 2025–26 academic year onwards. The Class 11 papers scheduled for 2027 are only for students who still have arrears from earlier years (and private candidates), not for students currently studying in Class 11.
- Class 12 exams start first, on March 3, 2027.
- Class 11 arrear exams run from March 5 to April 1, 2027.
- Class 10 exams run from March 17 to April 12, 2027.
- Practical exams for Class 12 and Class 10 are completed in February.
- All theory papers are held in a single morning session.
Class 10 (SSLC) Time Table 2027
Class 10 students have six papers in total. The schedule gives generous gaps between papers, including a full eight-day break between the first language paper and English. Use these gaps wisely, because they are where most of your final revision will happen.
| Date | Day | Subject |
|---|---|---|
| March 17, 2027 | Wednesday | Tamil / Other Languages (First Language) |
| March 25, 2027 | Thursday | English |
| March 31, 2027 | Wednesday | Mathematics |
| April 5, 2027 | Monday | Science |
| April 9, 2027 | Friday | Social Science |
| April 12, 2027 | Monday | Optional Language |
There are five free days before Mathematics, four before Science and three before Social Science. Treat each of these windows as a mini revision camp: go through your formula sheet or notes, solve one full previous-year paper under timed conditions, and correct your mistakes the same day.
The Optional Language paper on April 12 is not for everyone. Only students who have registered for an optional language need to write it, so confirm your subject list with your school well in advance.
Class 11 Arrear Exam Time Table 2027
Because the regular Class 11 public exam has been discontinued, students who are currently in Class 11 do not need to worry about this schedule. Their assessment will be handled through school-level examinations.
The schedule below applies only to candidates who failed one or more Class 11 papers in previous years (arrear candidates) and to private candidates. They need to write only the subjects they have registered for.
| Date | Subjects |
|---|---|
| March 5, 2027 | Tamil / Other Languages |
| March 16, 2027 | English |
| March 18, 2027 | Chemistry, Accountancy, Geography |
| March 22, 2027 | Mathematics, Zoology, Commerce, Microbiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Textile and Dress Designing, Food Service Management, Agricultural Science, Nursing (General) |
| March 24, 2027 | Physics, Economics, Employability Skills |
| March 30, 2027 | Communicative English, Ethics and Indian Culture, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Bio-Chemistry, Advanced Language (Tamil), Home Science, Political Science, Statistics, Nursing (Vocational), Basic Electrical Engineering |
| April 1, 2027 | Biology, Botany, History, Business Mathematics and Statistics, Basic Electronics Engineering, Basic Civil Engineering, Basic Automobile Engineering, Basic Mechanical Engineering, Textile Technology, Office Management and Secretaryship |
Details such as the application process, fee and exam centre for arrear candidates will be announced separately by the DGE. Some coaching websites list slightly different subject groupings for a few dates, so check the official DGE notice before you finalise your preparation order.
Class 12 (HSE Second Year) Time Table 2027
The Class 12 exams begin on March 3, 2027 with the language paper and end on March 29, 2027 with Mathematics, Zoology, Commerce and related subjects. These marks matter for college admissions and, in many cases, for counselling as well, so it is worth printing this schedule and keeping it on your study table.
| Date | Subjects |
|---|---|
| March 3, 2027 | Tamil / Other Languages |
| March 8, 2027 | English |
| March 12, 2027 | Chemistry, Accountancy, Geography |
| March 15, 2027 | Communicative English, Ethics and Indian Culture, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Bio-Chemistry, Advanced Language (Tamil), Home Science, Political Science, Statistics, Nursing (Vocational), Basic Electrical Engineering |
| March 19, 2027 | Biology, Botany, History, Business Mathematics and Statistics, Basic Electronics / Civil / Automobile / Mechanical Engineering, Textile Technology, Office Management and Secretaryship |
| March 23, 2027 | Physics, Economics, Employability Skills |
| March 29, 2027 | Mathematics, Zoology, Commerce, Microbiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Textile and Dress Designing, Food Service Management, Agricultural Science, Nursing (General) |
For science students in the Maths–Biology group, the four core papers (Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics) are separated by gaps of three to six days. The six-day window before Mathematics is especially valuable; plan to spend it entirely on problem practice.
Commerce students will write Accountancy on March 12, Economics on March 23 and Commerce on March 29. Students taking vocational subjects should confirm the exact date of their paper in the official PDF, since vocational subjects are spread across several days.
Practical Exam Dates
Practical exams are held in February, before the theory papers begin. Since practical marks are added to your final total, do not treat them lightly. Make sure your record notebook is complete, neat and signed by your teacher well before the practical window opens.
- Your school will announce the exact date and batch for each student's practical exam.
- Perform every experiment in your record notebook at least once before the exam.
- For the viva, practise explaining the aim, apparatus and result of each experiment in two or three sentences.
- Computer Science students should practise programs both on paper and on the computer, including predicting outputs.
| Class | Practical exam window |
|---|---|
| Class 12 | February 8 – February 18, 2027 |
| Class 10 | February 19 – February 26, 2027 |
| Class 11 (arrear) | Check the official DGE notice |
When Will the Results Be Declared?
Tentative result dates were announced along with the time table. These dates can change, and the DGE will confirm the final dates closer to the time.
| Exam | Tentative result date |
|---|---|
| Class 12 | May 7, 2027 |
| Class 11 (arrear) | May 7, 2027 |
| Class 10 | May 20, 2027 |
Once the results are declared, students can check their marks on the official results websites by entering their register number and date of birth. Results are usually also sent by SMS to the mobile number registered with the school. Never share your details on unofficial or look-alike websites.
How to Download the Time Table PDF
Always download the official time table from the DGE website. Images circulating on WhatsApp and social media sometimes contain errors or outdated dates.
- Open the official website dge.tn.gov.in on your phone or computer.
- Look for the 'Press Release' or 'Notification' section on the home page.
- Click the link for the 2026–2027 Public Examinations time table (SSLC, HSE First Year arrear and HSE Second Year).
- When the PDF opens, tap or click 'Download' to save it.
- Print a copy if possible and stick it near your study table so you see it every day.
Week-by-Week Revision Plan
From mid-October to the first exam there are roughly 19 to 21 weeks. If you split this time into clear phases, last-minute panic drops sharply. Adjust the plan below to match how quickly your school is completing the syllabus.
| Period | What to do | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Third week of October – end of November | Revise each day's school lessons the same evening; make short notes for difficult chapters | Finish the first half of the textbook thoroughly |
| December – half-yearly exams | Treat the half-yearly exam like the real board exam; list every mistake | Identify weak chapters early |
| January (4 weeks) | Complete remaining chapters; write one full model paper every week | Cover the entire syllabus once |
| February (4 weeks) | Practicals and record work; solve previous-year question papers | Full practical marks; better time management |
| Final 2 weeks before exams | Revise only formulas, diagrams and memory-based portions; do not start new chapters | Walk in calm and confident |
| Gaps between papers | Notes for the next subject, one timed model paper, enough sleep | Arrive fresh for every paper |
Make writing practice a daily habit for at least one hour. Reading alone is not enough; you also need the stamina to write continuously for three hours. Once a week, write a full paper with a timer running and check it honestly against the answer key.
Class 10 students should give extra attention to grammar in Tamil and English, worked examples in every Mathematics unit, and labelled diagrams in Science. The map section in Social Science is one of the easiest places to score full marks.
Class 12 students should prioritise book-back questions, solved examples and derivations. If you are also preparing for entrance exams, link your board revision with entrance preparation topic by topic; it saves time and strengthens concepts for both.
Subject-Wise Preparation Tips
Every subject rewards a slightly different approach. The tips below are general guidance; always give priority to the important portions your own teacher highlights.
- Tamil: Practise memory poems, grammar, essays and letters by writing them out. Clear handwriting makes the evaluator's job easier and works in your favour.
- English: Grammar, letter writing and paragraph writing give steady, predictable marks. Write at least one page in English every day.
- Mathematics: Keep all formulas in a separate notebook and read it daily. Write every solution with clear steps, because marks are awarded for steps as well as the final answer.
- Science / Physics / Chemistry / Biology: Practise neat, labelled diagrams. Small errors in chemical equations, units or definitions can cost marks, so revise them carefully.
- Social Science / History / Geography: Make a timeline of important years and events. Practise map work at least twice a week.
- Accountancy / Commerce / Economics: Format is critical in Accountancy. In Economics, a well-drawn diagram makes your answer clearer and more complete.
- Computer Science: For output-prediction questions, trace the program line by line on paper before writing the answer.
Whatever your subject, solving at least five years of previous public exam papers helps you understand how questions are framed and which chapters carry more weight. Use the official model question papers released by the School Education Department as well.
Exam Day Tips
Papers are held from 10:00 am to 1:15 pm. The first 10 minutes are for reading the question paper and the next 5 minutes for verifying the particulars on your answer sheet. After that, you have three hours to write.
- Reach the exam centre at least 30 to 45 minutes early.
- You will not be allowed in without your hall ticket. Pack it in your bag the night before.
- Carry blue or black pens, a pencil, an eraser, a scale and your geometry box.
- Do not carry mobile phones, smartwatches or any written material.
- Use the 10-minute reading time to mark the questions you are most confident about. Starting with easy questions builds momentum.
- Divide your time across sections and keep the last 15 minutes to review your answer sheet.
- After each paper, avoid long discussions about answers and move your focus to the next subject.
During the exam period, sleep at least seven hours a night, eat simple home-cooked food and drink plenty of water. Staying awake all night to study usually hurts memory more than it helps.
Parents can help most by keeping the home calm and avoiding pressure about marks. A relaxed environment does more for a student's performance than constant reminders.
Cut down on TV, mobile games and social media during this period to avoid distraction, but do keep 20 to 30 minutes a day for a walk or light exercise. A balance between study and rest is what keeps you consistent over several weeks of exams.

Use the half-yearly exams as a full rehearsal, aim for full marks in the February practicals, and spend the final two weeks on revision only. If you are ever unsure about a date, check the official notice on dge.tn.gov.in or ask your school. TamilDigit wishes every student the very best for 2027!
